After my wife and I started the P90X workout program, we realized the importance of having a workout recovery drink after each workout. If we didn't have a recovery drink we felt tired and cranky. When we did have one, we were satisfied and even energetic after our workouts.
As the P90X recovery drink mix is rather expensive, we started on a quest to develop a healthy and homemade alternative to the highly acclaimed P90X Peak Recovery Formula drink mix.
We discovered that the key to a good workout recovery drink is proper nutrition. Your body needs macro nutrients, such as carbs and proteins, as well as micro nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants to help rebuild muscles and recover from the intense workout you just preformed.
The best way to get proper nutrition is from whole foods. Whole foods contain many more nutrients than the isolated (and often synthesized) vitamins and minerals that are often added to processed (and otherwise nutrition free) foods. The nutrients in whole foods work together in synergy, providing more nutritional value to your body than mega-doses of single supplements.
After lots of experiments, our superfood workout recovery drink was born! This smoothie is a medley of whole foods blended together in an amazingly tasty, easy to consume, drink.
